Salut! Sunderland salutes Sunderland and brings you the goals

We are born pessimists, us Sunderland supporters.

But wherever in the world we find ourselves, we must all be feeling today as if we are walking on air. Second top again, and this time we have it in our power to stay there, at least for the time being.

It was never going to be 6-0 against Wolves. The result was excellent nonetheless, and the crowd – at over 40,000 – mightily heartening.

See the goals, grainy but true. Southampton tomorrow? A huge test. I have watched us there in torment, but I’ve also seen us win.

But whatever the outcome, we can already thank Roy Keane, Niall Quinn and the squad for the outstanding job they have done this season in restoring not only hope, but pride.

And for anyone who cares, Lilian Laslandes an David Bellion helped my second nearest French top flight club, fourth bottom Nice, to a useful draw 1-1 at third placed Sochaux.

  1. Your restraint does you great credit. This is indeed no time to be counting chickens. But how nice to see Keane getting manager-of-the-month recognition again. I find myself harking back to the days of Bob Stokoe.
