Salut! Sunderland never had its star illustrator Jake down as the sort to believe in the power of prayer.
But here he is imagining himself in the place of the Sunderland club chaplain, Father Marc Lyden-Smith, who seems to have had a spot of success in persuading Pope Francis to arrange some much-needed divine inspiration for the Lads.
The shrewd papal response, when these men of the cloth met at the Vatican. was to accept a Sunderland top but to promise only to offer prayers “for all the players in the Premier League to reach their potential”.
But maybe His Holiness realised that if the prayers happened to be answered, Sunderland’s players would necessarily, from the miserable depths of rock bottom, need to make a far greater leap than anyone else “to reach their potential”. The ensuing improvement was seen on Sunday.
So if Father Marc’s note, as ghostwritten by Jake, has led to another heavenly pow-wow, Pope Francis may already know the score in Saturday’s game between Hull City and Sunderland. But I’m sure he won’t need me to beg him not to use this unfair advantage and enter this week’s Guess the Score.
Everyone else can have a go. Eric Bowers added to his huge collection of winning Salut! Sunderland mugs for heroically coming up with 2-1 as the correct scoreline for the derby.
That’s it for a while. Competitions until further notice will be for fun. But the pope can have a mug for nowt if we win at Hull.

3-1 win for the mag slayers, us not Hull that is.
We are their bogey team just like we were to Bradford City in Peter Reid’s time (except for one notable occasion at home). I’m not going to predict a 4-1 win but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Hull 1 SAFC 5
Hull City 2 – 3 SAFC, as there are no other sensible permutations, but I actually think it will be 1 – 2 as Hull played well at Spurs and were unlucky, but extra time will have taken its toll.
Hull City Tigers 0 SAFC 3
Hull City 1 SAFC 2
Hull City 0 SAFC 2
I am going for a 1-0 to my lovely boys.
