Hull vs SAFC Guess the Score: down with pride, or self-pity?

Art of Football commemorates a happier day for Sunderland supporters

Before we reach
this week’s business of guessing the score at Hull City on Saturday, Salut! Sunderland is delighted to be able to say that our friends at Art of Football are the first confirmed sponsors of this season’s farewell-to-the-Premier-League edition of the HAWAY (highly articulate Who are You?) awards.

These, as most readers will know, are made each season to the best interviewees among opposing fans. Monsieur Salut is roping in the usual suspects to serve as judges but if you like the series and want to have a say, drop me a line at mailto:salutsunderland@gmail.com.

Next year brings the 45th anniversary of May 5 1973, a day of which we as Sunderland supporters were – if we were already alive then – delirious as opposed to despondent. We had, of course, won the FA Cup, beating much-fancied but dirty old Leeds.

Which means, of course, that this Friday is the 44th anniversary. Get the print or clothing version of the above image showing Bobby Kerr with the cup, or one of Monty leading the players and Bob Stokoe on a triumphant lap of Wembley at the Art of Football site. It could be for you or as a father’s day gift for mid-June.

Now on to the painful realities of match previews.

Do we care? If we play well and win, will we feel pride or just anger at the Lads’ failure to do so when it mattered? Who would we rather be up against in the Championship, given that the choice any two of Hull, Swansea and Boro? So many aspects of Saturday’s game to ponder – and contest that has no real meaning for us.

But guess the score, this week for fun only if fun is the right word and I am sure it is not.

No more prizes until I have ordered those owed to recent winners – sorry lads, but can I blame the pressure on my time imposed by the French elections? Work will still intervene into next week but it should be sorted in time for the Swansea game, in which case there will be another prize Guess the Score.

Have a go. And, I suppose, Ha’way the Lads.

  1. Hull 2 – 1 Sunderland…..Hull will be up for it and I hope the Tigers stay in the Premier League

  2. Many answers already taken so 0-0.

We have scored very few goals over the last few months. Maybe putting a few of the youngsters in will help in their development.

  3. A minor miracle if we only concede 3. A major one if we score 3. So, miracle of miracles – a 3-3 draw, at last!

  4. I want Hull to stay in the PL, they remind me of us
when Allardyce engineered the final escape act, 2-1 to Hull.

  5. I would like to see us win and win well because I always want that outcome, whether it’s the first team, the Under 23s, the Under 18s or the Ladies. But I fear we’ll lose again, if after a decent fight. 3-2
