Finally got to meet the amazing @WillGrigg today at the @StadiumOfLight club shop. Don’t think my son can quite believe he’s standing next to him ha ha he’s looking forward to being mascot on 12th February for @SunderlandAFC pic.twitter.com/W3v6QGX9Ac

Kathryn is very welcome to the pages of Salut! Sunderland. And so is her son Christopher, who reached 13 the other day.
Before one more welcome event, the match that brought three points against Wimbledon, the pair of them had the chance to meet Will Grigg, signed at the last minute on Thursday but still not quite match fit, in the SAFC club shop.
The resulting photo allows us to fill in one gap in the transfer window, the customary welcome to a new player (Max Power may argue he deserves one, too, having exchanged loan to permanent status).
On the other hand, Pete Sixsmith had dealt comprehensively with the in and outs, Grigg’s arrival included, at https://safc.blog/2019/02/sixer-says-pete-sixsmith-looks-at-our-january-transfer-dealings/.
For now, though, we will concentrate on Will. And Christopher. His mum’s tweet speaks volumes.
Chatting electronically to Monsieur Salut after the match, Kathryn said: “My son’s name is Christopher Murphy. He turned 13 on Wednesday so it was like a birthday present for him.”
If meeting Will was the first extra birthday present, a week on Tuesday will bring another. That’s when Christopher will run out as mascot as Sunderland play Blackpool under the floodlights. With any luck, Will Grigg will be by his side or nearby.
Can we suggest a third present, one only the Lads can deliver? Let that game on Feb 12 complete a series of three successive wins, with more to follow as we catch the leaders and stride towards promotion.
