Beating Spurs: no need for sober reflection

There’s plenty to say about the three penalties, about the two of them that Darren Bent missed, about Sunderland’s impassioned display, about Anton’s disallowed goal, about Bolo Zenden’s cracking volley.

But a lot of that has already been discussed here in the previous posts. And Pete Sixsmith has hardly had his say yet.

So let’s forget the need for quiet, sober reflection. Let’s just quote Steve Bruce, who told the official SAFC clubsite it had been a “truly fantastic spectacle”.

“If you go back eight weeks and think of the dross we dished up and then compare that to what we produced today, that’s what we’re in football for,” Bruce said.

“The game had everything – missed chances, goals, great goals, great performances and I’m sure the fans enjoyed it.

“The lads gave me everything and we got out of the traps brilliantly. I don’t know why our goal was disallowed but there was all sorts happening. I can’t remember three penalties in one game and two of them being missed.

“In the end it was a truly fantastic spectacle capped by a great goal. Bolo needed that after the one he’d missed previously!

“The atmosphere was brilliant and we can reflect on a great result.”

  1. Great performance from Sunderland, poor from Spurs. Ignore idiots like the one at 11.59 and good luck against the Barcodes next season

  2. Sunderland are shit and Spurs are far better as shown by the league table
