Champions: 1996, 1999, 2005 and 2007 all over again

Anything the first team can do, the Lads who support them can do too.

Salut! Sunderland offers hearty congratulations to the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ Association London and Southern England branch team whose “hard-earned 0-0 draw” with Scotland – yep, a whole country – confirmed them as champions of the APFSCIL Football League second division.

Not sure how representative the picture – borrowed from the Wear Down South site – is. But this is the report of Ian Todd, founder of the branch:

Since being re-formed in February 2006, the team has finished 3rd for the last three seasons so well deserved congratulations are due to Mark Hay, who got the whole show on the road again, and the many players who have participated in games (and suffered injuries, sometimes serious, in the cause) over the period.”

Ian points out that Mark’s team has one more game to play – against Plymouth Argyle at the Metropolitan Police Peel Centre, Hendon, this Sunday at 2.30pm.

He urges anyone able to do so to go along and show support for their efforts, first taking care to let Mark know by emailing safcsalondonfootball@hotmail.co.uk to ensure security access, given the venue). Post match celebrations in the nearby Beaufort Arms (Heritage Avenue).
