Crystal Palace: Guess the Score, meet SAFC fans aged 12 and 65

Don’t worry – we’ll reach Guess the Score in due course. Just scroll down if you get bored …

Two things have struck Monsieur Salut with particular force this week. One was this refreshingly upbeat comment from a 12-year-old Sunderland supporter, posting at the Blackcats e-mail list, after being enthralled by the last quarter of SAFC v MK Dons:

The grumpy old codgers who reside at the list – yes, I include M Salut – could hardly believe their eyes .

Wow. Wow. Wow.
Never seen the magic of a cup.
Never seen the SoL at night.
Never seen us score 4 goals.
Never witnessed anything quite like that.
Never written an email walking from the stadium grinning ear to ear.

And the other event was reaching an age at which it is at last possible to claim official oldie status.

To read about the former, go to my ESPNFC.com pages at http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/sunderland/id/1976?cc=5739

And to hear what it feels like to be 65, this is your link: http://www.francesalut.com/2013/08/now-im-65.html

You’ve had a sample from the lad I called Chris at ESPN. This is the only reference in my OAP posting at francesalut.com to Sunderland AFC:

I know now that I am unlikely to see Sunderland AFC win another meaningful trophy in my lifetime. At 15, I’d have said it was only a matter of time (and I’d have been right, since the 1973 FA Cup Final came later).

Prove me wrong, PDC and the Lads.

And in the meantime, everyone else can guess the score in Palace vs SAFC this Saturday evening. In wine-fuelled birthday spirit, I offer a Salut! Sunderland mug – not the MoN one but using one of Jake’s more recent images – to the first reader to post the correct final score before kickoff. Palace fans are very welcome to enter and a winner from their ranks would receive a mug of modified design.

  1. Still going for the most bizarre result from last week I was tempted by Tranmere’s 0-5 away win but in the end my prediction has to be Crystal Palace 1 Sunderland 3 – match abandoned at half time.

    • Eric as you so unselfishly offered my a half share in the Masarati plus page three girls (I once drove a Maserati at the Seaburn motor Show) I will donate my winnings to you,,,,,,, however bearing in mind my complete lack of foresight plaese be patient.

all things come to those who are patient!!!

      • I couldn’t possibly accept. Glad I didn’t win the other night. A Maserati is far too fast and racy…so are Page 3 girls!
