Guess the Score by which Sunderland will beat Bournemouth and start the revival

Monsieur Salut digs deep yet again – and promises to keep up the selective double-prize offer until Sunderland finally win a Premier League game …

Honest, I swear I kept a straight face while writing that headline.

No, I am not any more confident than the next sufferer. But Sunderland have to win some time – a Newcastle United fan reminds me that when Derby went down with 11 points, their solitary victory was 1-0 versus the Mags – and Saturday, before my own eyes, wold be a great place for it to happen.

So I will maintain the discriminatory approach to the prize: until Sunderland finally win, the winner of Guess the Score, ie the first to predict the eventual scoreline, will qualify for not one but two mugs if opting for a SAFC victory.

Bournemouth supporters are warmly welcome to enter if they wish to suggest the outcome is more likely to be 6-1, in the manner of their game vs Hull, than any kind of away win. A winner from that source would be sent a single mug – as a SAFC fan, Gerry MacGregor, went close to collecting with his 0-4 prediction for the Arsenal game – and it would look more appropriate to their allegiance than this …

The winner gets glory - and a prize

Any winner must have a UK delivery address.

And talking of delivery, now’s the time, Mr Moyes and whatever players you have at your disposal for Saturday, to repay the fans’ astonishing loyalty and ease their troubled minds.

Without wishing to worry anyone unduly, though AFC Bournemouth fans are pretty upbeat just now. This is an extract from another great Who are You?, with the Cherries-supporting broadcaster Tom Latchem, which will appear here tomorrow:

We are a decent side, and when we are on form play some sparkling football. That Hull thrashing had been coming, too, we just needed to be more clinical, and Spurs (0-0) was an amazing team performance from start to finish where everyone did their job. Yet even in the lower leagues Bournemouth had a reputation for playing attractive, passing football – a few notable exceptions (stand up Tony Pulis, Jimmy Quinn and Paul Groves) aside – and so it’s great that Howe is continuing in that vein.

When he leaves, as he inevitably will at some point and deservedly so, the hope would be that we find a replacement in that mould. Though, as Premier League club after club have shown, that’s not easy!

No need to fear the worst then! Ha’way the Lads.

  1. I predicted a 5-1 thumping last week, and after their fourth I felt so guilty.

Watching the Bournemouth Spurs game I was surprised no-one was sent off, there were some choice tackes going in on both sides. I like the way they play as a team and with spirit.

Our lacklustre lickspittles have no chance, but I cant bring myself to predict another defeat, so it’s a cherry picking 3-2 to the Lads.

  2. Bournmouth 1 – 2 Sunderland…result saves DM’s bacon if the papers are to be believed….actually the comment came from the Daily Mirror, apologies for mistaking this for a paper!!!
