The return of football means the return of Rob Hutchison‘s occasional one-word ratings.

  1. Think Borini’s contribution is more often than not underrated, his work rate is terrific and he is always moving the opposiotion around making space for Defoe. Generally thought we looked organised and together a plus

  2. The overall picture ie Moyes looked at it in its entirety rather than drilling down into a particular area. He came across well and will soon establish an authoritative position. It’s what we’ve needed for years

    • Holistic – dealing with the whole rather than the individual parts – which in a way explains why Gooch was preferred to Khazri in the starting line up.

Rodwell I thought did OK – anonymous for the most part but that meant he was doing his job. The through ball he played for Defoe was a peach of a pass. I’d give him a 6.

O’Shea did OK in the defensive side of Kirchhoff’s role but lacks the German’s ability to play a decent creative pass with any consistency.

With no Cattermole, Larsson, Kirchhoff or M’Vila to call on I thought Moyes got it about right.

Interesting analysis on MOTD on how Guardiola intends to use his full backs.
