Ipswich or Portsmouth? Rotherham or Peterborough? How about Lincoln or Coventry? It’s your choice

Last season our punters got it more or less right and correctly predicted most of the top six. Luton were missed but that was mainly down to the Coventry Ninjas, whose hijack of last year’s poll pushed them (Luton) out of the top places.

Maybe the ninjas or another club’s fans will do the same again this season. As far as I’m aware the polldaddy vulnerability that allowed multiple voting still exists and all I can do is disable the ability of readers to see the results in real time. That might change how the poll coding works (it’s built-in and can’t be changed) but it takes something away. A pity, but there we go.

I’ve got a lot on for the next few weeks so I won’t be conjuring up a novel method of tracking and displaying our chosen clubs’ progress or the lack of it. All I’ll be doing is monitoring the accretion of points for now, though I might come up with something different later in the season.

As always, your comments are welcome. We hold posts for moderation but they do go up eventually, subject to meeting commonsense rules of decency, manners, libel etc.

[polldaddy poll=10356962] Let us know who you think will make the playoffs or better. You should be able to choose six  clubs from the list on the left and I’ll come back before the season starts with results

And if you’re tempted to spend all night making repeat votes, as some people appeared to do last year, just take a deep breath and think peaceful thoughts until the urge passes. There must be better things you can do.

If you missed last season’s poll and want to get an idea of what’s going on these links might help:

The bookies say Sunderland, Barnsley, Charlton, Portsmouth, Luton and Scunthorpe. What about you?

How our Coventry friends hijacked Salut! Sunderland’s League One promotion poll

Aye, Aye, Aye Aye, Sky Blues prefer us to the Ricoh

Coventry hanging on to Doncaster and Charlton as Portsmouth chase Barnsley, Sunderland and Luton.

Luton then Barnsley, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Charlton and Doncaster? Who knows?

There are other links in the series as I revisited it at times throughout the season – most often when there was downtime in the fixtures. To find them all you can follow the generic dodgy numbers link:

McCormick’s Dodgy Numbers

That’s a category which covers a multitude of sins, including my most recent close-season rambles, which take a look at the finances and situations of our League One rivals – with the exception of Bolton Wanderers and Bury, where things are vey much in progress, and Sunderland, where they aren’t. I will finish this series at some point, hopefully before the season starts.

McCormick’s Dodgy Numbers. The arithmetic’s correct, it’s just the rest could be a bit wonky.

  1. My choice would be to install a proper manager otherwise it doesnt matter who we play or their quality.
We were fragile. We choked in at least 25 games.
Our team is arguably worse with catts gone and oviedo, macgloughlin and macgeady going.
We have recruited what can only be described as 2 very very ordinary players. Players of their ilk are not going to improve how we play and lets face it last season how we played was eye bleedingly awful last season. An eye watering 4m on 2 strikers ( man utd money by div 1 standards ) and neither of them could hit a cows ar5e with a banjo. Was it the players or our manager or a combination of both?
Our defence is worse if that is possible.
Anyone suggesting we will improve on last season needs help or doesnt know the square root of stuff all re football.
