Masochism (1): Sunderland’s players ratings – but who was ‘phenomenal’ for QPR?

Prepare for more pain. The beatings will continue until morale improves. After a night when Sunderland collectively expressed a Premier status death wish or – if you prefer – gave a new definition to the notion of ‘cruel and unusual punishment’, we have the customary sets of player ratings. First up is Rob Hutchison, with his quirky one-worders and marks averaging 5 out of 10 for the starting line-up. Keir Bradwell’s wordier condemnation is at https://safc.blog/2015/02/masochism-2-sunderlands-player-ratings-vs-qpr-worse-than-norwich-away/

Rob writes: “Remember, it’s Sunderland. It’s never gonna be easy, is it?”

Pantillimon 6 skanked

Rev 5 culpable

O’Shea 5 undone

Vergini 5 sleepy

Van Aanholt 4
exposed

Bridcutt 4 laboured

Larsson 5 fatigued

Gomez 4
weary

Johnson 5
patchy

Defoe 7 unlucky

Wickham 6 adequate

Subs:

Brown 6
enough

Alvarez 7 tricky {again}

Fletcher 5
brief

Honourable mention for Hoops goalie…

Green 10 phenomenal

And how Monsieur Salut saw it, on tour at ESPN (see it in full at http://www.espnfc.com/club/sunderland/366/blog/post/2293203/no-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-for-gus-poyet-and-sunderland):

It was a collectively wretched performance that offered fans no reason to expect more than yet another desperate battle for survival, scant reward for crowds that dipped below 40,000 for the first time this season, and only because QPR’s travelling support was almost invisible.
