Newcastle v Sunderland: win, lose or draw – it’s your shout

Jake is confident - or at least thinks saying it will make him so

OK, as Jake’s brilliant graphic confirms, the waiting is nearly over. You can see all our build-up displayed on the home page by clicking here, and soon it will be time for the players to battle it out for North-eastern honours. Guess the score and you may win a prize.

The usual rules will apply. All entries received up to noon tomorrow, Sunday March 4, will be valid, even if delay for moderation means the prediction does not immediately appear.

The first reader to get the final score right, as judged by Monsieur Salut, will win and be offered the choice between the following books:

* And Up Steps Michael Gray: the secret diary of a Sunderland fan aged 28¾ … Anon

* Roker Roars Back: Sunderland’s return to glory … by Geoff Storey

Neither of which
might appeal greatly to a winner from the Tyne side of the divide.

So I will substitute three CDs for anyone not wanting a book.

There is good news and bad concerning this alternative: these CDs will be unused (unlike the books which are in good but not new condition) and still in their wrapping, but they will be folk/roots albums taken at random from a collection that is massive but not necessarily to everyone’s taste.

Tough! You could, of course, enter merely for fun …

And Ha’way the Lads.

  1. Having just seen Dunston UTS win 4-3 at Peterborough Northern Star in the quarter finals of the FA Vase, I’ll go for the same score to the visitors tomorrow.
Yes, the beer in The Coalheavers Arms was very good.

  2. Tinchy Stryder has spoken!

    Toon – 2 v Lads – 3 (winner in the last 5 minutes).

Check his predictions v Lawro on the BBC website and get some money on it!

    • I’d gladly take either Sheila or Canny Folk’s prediction, but both scores have already been taken

    • Unless that is the wrong way round and you fear the worst, Hilary, it is the same prediction of a 2-1 win for us that Joan has already claimed. Up to her to decide on sharing the Michael Gray book!

  3. OK, I have a feeling that we’ll do a Wigan and we’ll win 4-1. A goal just before half-time from Gardener, a Campbell special on 50 mins, they get one back to make it 2-1 and then a bullet from McClean and a bit of magic from Sess to wrap it up.

  4. I’ll go for a Sunderland win 1-2 – Campbell to score 1. Hopefully he’s fired up and not losing too much sleep with the baby. Seem to remember an dip in SKP’s form after the twins came along!

  5. I’ll set the ball rolling with 1-0 to Sunderland. Won’t guess the scorer except to say not Mignolet.
