Monsieur Salut has a ticket. The ongoing bore of train strikes – who is the more obstinate, South West Railways or the RMT? – means a car journey down to Fratton Park …
It’s certainly a big game. But is it our game of the season given that they are five points ahead of us at the top of League One, or theirs since victory for us would cut that to two and we have two games in hand?
Monsieur Salut, for once (well twice) will be there to learn the answer to that question. He’s experienced good, bad and average days at Fratton Park over the years.
No reader, whoever they support, needs me to say much more. We all know what is at stake.
Terry McLoughlin – not Jon’s dad but he does live close enough to Pompey to make it likely he’ll be there too – predicted a nervy 2-1 win against Bristol Rovers. So the Tales From the Red and Whites book has now gone. Suffice to say, I will now offer the usual Salut! Sunderland mug …
And he will ty to come up with a suitable alternative should a Pompey fan win. All are welcome.
Be first with the correct scoreline, have a UK delivery address, be prepared to wait for delivery (I tend to forget) and accept that if the game is abandoned before the final whistle, the competition is abandoned, too.
I am now off to Berlin for a quick pre-Christmas break.
Keep coming back here for the superb advent calendar series masterminded with extraordinary effort by our deputy editor Malcolm Dawson. Expect a splendid Pompey “Who are You?”.
And Ha’way the Lads.
