I’m getting a bit tired of the title (and Monsieur Salut should apologise to any reader lured here by thoughts it was a poll on religion; the word inexplicably replaced relegation in the headline when published and still appeared some time later at the newsnow.co.uk site) .
But just because we have some decent players, led by one of the Premier League’s most experienced managers and backed by a tremendous crowd, we can’t assume we’re safe.
Our record is not good. We’ve been one of the survivors for too many seasons and we can’t take anything for granted. Even now there will be some fans somewhere rubbing their hands as they look at the fixtures and thinking ‘Sunderland, that’s an easy three points’.

For my part I’m finding it difficult to predict who will go down, now that Aston Villa have departed and Mr Ashley has relocated some of his better-paid employees.
History says there will be a newly promoted team relegated, and the smart money will no doubt be on Hull, who I did say two years ago could be destined to be the Premier League’s next yo-yo club. Some pundits will pick Watford or Bornemouth, on the grounds that second season syndrome is due to strike. That’s an interesting proposition, given that Watford have changed managers and Bournemouth went on a slide, managing only one win (against a hapless Aston Villa) at the end of last season. Others will look at Crystal Palace and West Brom, clubs who didn’t set the league alight, and wonder if it’s their year to be found out. And of course some will look at us. But what about you? What do you think? There are no prizes for getting it right but you’re welcome to tell us what you think. Never had faith in Pardew as a manager. However, recently he seems to have improved. But, the back end of the season would give Crystal Palace cause for concern.
I think they will be in the mix, as will Watford.
Allardyce had us playing wonderful at the end of last season, and I see Sunderland having a successful season, and perhaps gaining a top ten position.
I fear for Boro, and Hull. Not so much Boro, as they have some stability. but Hull are in a transition status.
Certainly, looking at the votes, Crystal Palace are the team I would add to the mix.
You might even bring some supporters, Smoggie.
I dont see where it makes much difference who we play when ericster, we have them all to play sooner or later and it’ll be a grand derby when we come up your place, we might even give you a surprise lol

Without a good first half of the season and plenty of Ighalo goals WATFORD would have slid into the Champs. HULL, like ourselves, will always struggle to attract real quality and start a bit behind everyone else due to the playoffs. It will be a brief flirtation with the Wear Tees derby as MIDDLESBORING will surely struggle. Sorry Smogboy. So there you are: Middlesbrough, Watford, Hull. Ourselves? 14th ish.
Gone for Boro, Bournemouth and West Brom (heart not head on the last as they are appalling to watch). Last year, mixed results. Predicted Pearson would be sacked early (and he was 1 week later) but that would mean that Leicester would go down, which wasn’t quite so accurate.

As a Hull fan who backed my team to be relegated successfully season before last ( winnings helped pay for season ticket in Championship ) I can’t say if Hull will be relegated and no one else can. Reasons being, 1 we don’t know who our manager will be, 2 we don’t know who our owners will be and the consequences of that 3 who our team will be as several have not had contracts renewed. On the basis of the above 3 it don’t look too good, but who knows what will / might happen between now and the season start. Last season I backed Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland to go down ( indivually not as a treble ) and nearly got it right.
It seems like a religion, at times.
