SAFC v Southampton prize Guess the Score: light after the Goodison gloom?

This is your chance – whoever you support – to Guess the Score in SAFC vs Saints, be first to get it right and win a prize …

It was already a massive test.
Southampton are seventh for a reason just as there is no mystery as to why Sunderland are second bottom.

Our Saints “Who are You?” interviewee* wonders whether Sunderland actually need to go down “to gut the squad and have a decent crack at rebuilding … a risky game, as many can testify”.

The best response is the one Big Sam has been appointed to deliver. And we know from experience that a rotten result is not necessarily followed by another (though we can usually predict one with some accuracy after a derby win).

So Guess the Score. No one went for 6-2 at Goodison – surprise, surprise – so it is a rollover, that is to say two mugs instead of the usual one from our sponsors, Personalised Football Gifts. The name(s) of your choice go on the No 12 shirt.

As usual, everyone is entitled to enter and a Saints-supporting or other non-SAFC winner would receive mugs with a suitably altered design. You must be first to predict the correct score, do so before kickoff and have a UK delivery address. Monsieur Salut’s decision is final.

* Back to our “Who are You?” interviewee. Connor Armstrong, a Southampton-supporting football writer with County Durham connections including a Sunderland-supporting uncle, was – like many of us lot – at the 8-0 debacle just over a year ago. He remembers a “crazy” game with Sunderland being the better team until the goals started going in and our players effectively gave up.

Come back tomorrow to see Connor’s interview in full.

And Ha’way the Lads on Saturday. It’s essential we get over Goodison and add to the achievements of the Wear-Tyne derby.
