John McCormick writes: no-one expected much from this game after Sam played it down,  which was just as well, I suppose. I did think we were going to score a second but then  I realized it was Danny Graham against Petr Cech.

Pete Sixsmith appears to think similarly; here is his instant seven-word verdict, straight after the final whistle.

  1. On a lighter note, lovely to see his Sixership and M Salut at the match. Safe journey back to France Colin.

  2. Now I may be just a doddery old fool, but after 50 mins (ish) I said to my son “did Danny Graham come on at half time”?. “No, he’s been on since the start” was the reply. Enough said.

  3. Doesn’t hurt getting knocked out of the cup by Arsenal, but yet more alarm bells ringing over shocking defending! Their second and third goals were embarrassingly easy. How does any striker get 2 yards of clear space on our six yard line? And how does a simple pass elude 4 defenders for another tap-in?

Meanwhile, I don’t care who’s injured or needs resting, but how does Danny Graham continue to get on the pitch? Could any youngster from the U21 squad possibly be worse? Picking a random fan from the terraces and lending them some ill-fitting boots would be as useful a tactic as giving this bloke a game. Amongst all the things I’ve agreed with about Sam’s regime so far, his continuing selection of Graham just has me baffled.

  4. Last thing we needed was a replay ,though I wouldn’t have minded an easier home draw for a bit of practice for the second string if we’d got through .No guarantee of that so I suppose its for the best , sadly .

  5. From what I saw today (online, dodgy stream) the lads didn’t let us down, they gave it a good go. But is it a good idea to play in camouflaged strips? You could hardly see them against the grass.
