Sixer’s Sevens: Arsenal 0 SAFC 0 – all smiles at the Emirates

Pete Sixsmith gave north London a miss and settled for the Sky coverage around at his mate’s – the other Peter…Horan’s. There are rumours that one of his brothers, Michael, no stranger to the Comments section of Salut! Sunderland may pop up at some stage with a report but for now Sixer minor comes up with a 7 word summary in place of the usual elder Sixsmith.

  1. Completely and totally fantastic result. Outstanding performance from everybody but the two that were subbed at HT, but particular mention to Larsson, Coates and Big Pants.

Lets hope that Dick wil stay on. The decision seems to be in the balance now. When he arrived he appeared clear that it was just until the end of the season, but maybe now he understands a lot more about the club. I did wonder if the tears were because it was the end of the road for him and his mate.

I desperately hope that he doesn’t go because we’ve not had a man with Dick’s pedigree in my life time. He looks right, and has changed the mentality. I’m sure we all want to see what he can do. given the chance to build his own team.

    • I think that’s two or three times he’s changed things at half time even though we weren’t losing. I hope he stays because I think he knows a little bit about football.

If not DA, then who? There’s not much out there that I’d want in charge.

  2. Not my 7 but our Michael’s. His first game this season and what a belter – game and 7.. Proud of the players but the Head Coach is absolute quality. I may raise a glass of Advocaat to him at some stage tonight.

  3. Fantastic turn around since Dick Advoocat was appointed . The intensity has been incredible and the sort of thing that we can’t really keep up for a full season, but at the moment , absolute joy and relief and we start again .

      • We do and whilst we are all rightly heaping praise on DA remember that Di Canio and Poyet also pulled off great escapes. What happens next is vital. If the Dutchman isn’t staying we need someone stable like him and not a volatile character or one who puts philosophy ahead of practicality. Seeing his reaction at the final whistle I think he has a lot of thinking to do over the next few days. He is not a young man, he doesn’t need the money but I get the feeling he wants to take the job. I suspect it will all come down to the outcome of discussions with his family not the club.

  4. Imagine if Vergini was still playing instead of Coates …. we’d still be fully in the mix on Sunday.

    Larsson was truly heroic tonight.

  5. All credit, some great defending tonight. But by god you lot have your work cut out during the off season, something drastic needs doing. If I was Advocaat I’d be making sure the bonus cheque didnt bounce and then you wouldnt see his arse for dust and let some other mug take the job on

    • I would have to agree. There are players who are way past their best (especially in defence). It’s not like our attack scored in abundance either this season.
We need Cattermole as a Midfield coach ASAP lol.

Joking aside, we are still in better shape than those guys north of the Wear. *wink

      • Noticed in one of his interviews he said that the squad needs to be strengthened over the summer. What can we read into that I wonder?

  6. Fantastic performance. Everyone worked their socks off. They were all heroes. Just shows the effect a proper manager can have?

We can now sit back and see which of Hull and Newcastle rise to the occasion.

  7. At times it seemed comfortable, in an “it’s going to end in tears” sort of way.
DA has got us playing with discipline, and half time subs worked.
All worked their socks off, special credit to the two Sebs. Pants great and vastly underrated.
Looking forward to a relaxing Sunday watching other teams suffer

    • And two of our favourites will be suffering in the mags and Bruce , strange how things work out !

      • And Bruce a Mag supporter since a lad. How sweet he has to try and engineer their relegation!
