I was highly critical of Jack Ross after the 2 games last week and I have to admit I was not happy with selecting Cattermole in place of a more attacking player. However, I am very happy to admit that he got it right. Cattermole was back to the player he was at the start of the season but the key thing was that his presence gave Leadbitter a little more time and space and he was absolutely superb. Constantly passing forwards into threatening areas. We did still pass it around at the back, which is fine, provided we don’t keep going backwards and forwards and instead, as we did last night, look to get it forward once we have made a bit of space.
As well as Cattermole and Leadbitter, a shout for O’Nien, again excellent and James who was much better going forward. McGeady was good and Gooch better than recently and I loved the amount of work Grigg got through. Delighted he got a goal. Finally, as he has again been the target of the keyboard warriors recently, I thought Honeyman was excellent. Particularly in the last 10 minutes the amount of ground he covered getting back to help the defence was phenomenal.
