It may not have been a full house today for Jermain Defoe’s home debut but Pete Sixsmith was there as usual. Although Gus made three changes it was still a strong starting line up which is what we fans want to see in the F.A. Cup. It was also still 3-5-2 with Jones and van Aanholt in the wing back positions. A goal-less first forty five minutes left Sixer and Gary Bennett somewhat underwhelmed. In the second half Jack Rodwell did nothing to further the cause, receiving his second yellow and leaving the Lads a man short. Sunderland had chances but it was Fulham’s Rodallega who hit the woodwork. Pete was not a happy bunny.

Poyet is boring us all the way into the championship . O’Neill was sacked for less than this and even he’s terribly dissapointing reign was an improvement on this torture . I honestly thought Poyet was getting it right but it seems the miracle finish to last season was exactly that and now for some reason he’s just put the brakes on . He’s trying to be to clever instead of just cutting the players loose and letting them play , within a structure of course . I’ve a feeling yesterday’s low crowd and appalling performance won’t have gone unnoticed by our owner who needs this club to be in the Premier to fund itself . Borrowed time Gus , Burnley is pivotal dont allow it to be pitiful .
And with so many of the “big” teams going out today the way has opened up for at least one unfancied team to go all the way. So no weakened team in the replay Poyet, we may never forgive you.

I think it is a question of tactics, Jake. Poyet is just to cautious, does not trust his more creative players and is, I believe, not suited to English football, He has the South American attiude of safety first and an obsession with having the ball, but in areas of the field which are innocuous.
Agreed Paul, and it doesn’t matter who you have up front, whether it’s Jimmy Greaves or Jimmy Krankie, if you don’t get the ball to him in threatening positions he ain’t gonna score!
Do you think Defoe is regretting it already? Oh well, at least our marquee signing of the summer has at last added something to his game, UNNECESSARY RED CARDS!
