He ought to have done the same later in the half but was foiled by a mixture of his own slight hesitation and Kompany’s magnificent tackle. Second half was different; City showed the pace and invention they had lacked in the first and two strikes of pure magic, from Toure and especially Nasri, transformed the game in two minutes. The third goal was wholly undeserved and cruel, a breakaway after a Sunderland attack had come to nothing. Before that, City had been wasting time galore – a tribute in itself to the challenge they faced today. I am very proud of the team, the management, and the marvellous supporters.
Great performance, undone only by two unstoppable goals, and a late one on the break wen Sunderland were desperately seeking an equaliser.
I think, if Borini had cut across Kompany with his second chance, to get a shot on goal, or, more likely, a penalty, we would have gone on to win.
However we did brilliantly, and everyone played their part. Well done Sunderland.
