Southend United vs Sunderland: in search of the winning mood ahead of playoffs

Our Southend “Who are You?” interviewee Ian Charnock has expressed the hope that Jack Ross adopts a cautious approach and holds back on selecting key players.

But isn’t it important to end the disappointing league programme on a high? A team that has won only one of the last six games is arguably not in the best frame of mind going into the playoffs.

Not for the last time this season, since there either two or – as we hope – three games to go after the visit to Roots Hall, Salut! Sunderland invites you to tell us how it will go.

Be first to be right, have a UK postal address and, whoever you support, there’ll be something in it for you: the SAFC famous dressing room mug showing five names of your choice – they don’t all have to be Gary Rowell, as chosen by Rob Hutchison – or something appropriate if you’re a Shrimpers fan or neutral..

We all drink tea in a Gary Rowell world

Have a go. And Ha’way the Lads.

And here’s a taster to Ian’s Who are You? – it’s well worth a read

One of my best friends is a Sunderland supporter as well as his dad. I think it was back in 2011, he told another friend to ask me how Southend were doing because ‘he doesn’t look that far down the fizzy pop league!’.

  1. Keeping the faith with a 1-2 away win. I’m totally convinced our fight-back starts here (probably).

  2. The eternal optimist says had a brilliant time at the weekend with the Prague safc supporters club pity about result not what we deserved referee was appalling but hey no that’s the way the seasons gone but never mind a good finish to the season 5-0 to the lads

  3. With Plymouth playing Scunthorpe, Southend are down if they lose. A draw is only a good result for them if Plymouth and Scunny draw AND Walsall don’t win.

So I would expect them to go for a win. They might go all gung ho and leave themselves exposed or they might sit back and hope to catch us on the break.

A goal early doors for us and it could be a landslide.

Other than that I won’t put my prediction until others have had a chance to win the mug but it’ll be 6-0 when I do.

  4. I realise now that 4-1 was a ludicrous score to choose for Fleetwood so will revert to my much more sensible banker prediction of 4-3 to The Lads.
