There is plenty of speculation, as might be expected, about the futures of two managers resting in part on the outcome of tomorrow’s game at the Stadium of Light.

SAFC v Chelsea: will the Nordsjaelland factor help or hinder? Guess the score
Monsieur Salut is off to Tunisia to take a quick look at what the Arab Spring has meant for tourism. Will he find somewhere to watch the Chelsea game? Or will he have to rely on the nimble-fingered Pete Sixsmith’s test messages from the East Stand? Better still, you tell me now before I fly, what the score will be …
Norwich City v Sunderland: a chance for redemption? Guess the score anyway
Sunderland supporters once again approach a match with apprehension instead of a buzz of excitement.
Sunderland v QPR: can O’Neill block the ‘Arry effect? Guess the score
Almost forgot. It is a big game tonight, says Martin O’Neill, at the same time denying those tweeted claims that he had offered his resignation after the West Brom defeat.

Steed narrowly misses French callup PLUS Everton ‘Guess the Score’
I had hoped to bring news that a great favourite of mine, Steed Malbranque, had today been called up for a French friendly against Italy. Shame on Didier Deschamps, the national coach. He admitted that our former midfielder’s magnificent form for Lyon had made him think; clearly not quite enough. He cited his Steed’s – 33 in January – and said: “Today, he’s a very interesting proposition but what about six months or a year from now? … [but] there are no age limits and if he maintains this standard of play I will need to reflect more deeply on the matter”. Hope they lose for want of midfield creativity!
So on to the notorious but fun Salut! Sunderland Guess the Score competition. Everton fans are welcome to take part.
SAFC v Aston Villa: the fightback starts here so Guess the Score
Sunderland played Aston Villa at home for the first time as a Football League club on Jan 19 1891, home being the Newcastle Road ground.
All of 6,000 souls turned up to watch a 5-1 win, an occasion commemorated in two of Jake’s images. There had been a heavier victory, 7-2, in a friendly the previous season before Sunderland’s admission to the league.
Most Sunderland supporters would settle this weekend for a win of any kind against the same club. For the sake of morale – theirs as well as the players’ – three points are, quite simply, non-negotiable.
Wise words on Sunderland’s brand of football PLUS Middlesbrough ‘Guess the Score’
Let us mix fun, competition and a sense or proportion.
