According to a straw poll at the US football site Across the Pond – it follows English football, not the quite different American sport – between one in four and one in five readers believes Sunderland will beat Manchester City in the League Cup final.

I put that down to my influence. The percentage was only 18 when I recorded a podcast with Chris Bowerbank and his colleagues which has gone live today.

It is time for that rarest of things, Salut! Sunderland beating its own drum and asking readers to apply their own percussive accompaniment.

From the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) comes news of its 2013 Writers Awards ceremony, in association with William Hill, which will take place on Monday December the Emirates stadium. Monsieur Salut feels able to proceed with what it could mean for this site on the firm understanding that Paul Danson will not be among the judges.

Salut! Podcast: a discussion on Sunderland’s trip to QPR

This may well be the first and last podcast that goes out to you lucky Salut! Sunderland regulars, writes Stephen Goldsmith. It’s an idea I’ve been toying with for a while and it may seem bizarre that it finally appears near the Easter period of the season.

Well, it is what it is in that respect and coming up with something from now until the end of the season means the summer break offers a chance of reflection and improvement.
