Salut! Predictions: Sunderland, Fulham, Newcastle, Swansea, Arsenal, Spurs – How will they fare?

NB: Completed but inexplicably not posted by kickoff time. Sorry, Monsieur Salut’s 1-0 prediction already blown to pieces but he also had a punt on 4-3 ….

I have vocally embraced a well used assumption a lot today, writes Stephen Goldsmith. The one that goes along the lines of “Don’t worry, we’re bound to win tomorrow as I’m not there”. You know the drill. Then it dawned on me that Sunderland tend to lose the games I do and don’t attend in equal measure. I may not care by tea time if I’m as intoxicated as expected in a Liverpool pub somewhere.

The Predictions League table has undergone a stewards enquiry since last time it was published. Carelessness on my behalf and I’m thankful for Malcolm’s obsessive compulsive tendencies for all things correct that it’s now been updated. Apologies if you have slipped down it somewhat. Imagine needing things to be correct and proper, and witnessing Sunderland this season? Ouch!

Salut’s Week: Rose wants out of Spurs, Steed scores in France

Jake’s way of looking back on a Salut! week

Stephen Goldsmith writes: I was slightly confused when I was asked this morning if I had done the Salut! Sunderland’s week review. The requisition e-mail was always there as it happens, but akin to an opportunity for Titus Bramble to clear the ball sufficiently in the danger area, it must have passed me by.  There may be more on Bramble next week in Salut! Reflections, as the gaffer’s (Martin O’Neill, not Colin Randall) newly found confidence in the player is either some sort of delusional utterance or a genius method of motivation. Steve Bruce, Spurs and Hull City. And the challenge of supporting England

Jake's way of looking back on a Salut! week

You can only guess at Steve Bruce’s thoughts as a string of modest Premier League posts sailed into view only to vanish beyond the horizon of his employability. Having downsized his ambitions and taken the Hull City job, what did he then think when the higher profile Spurs managership became available? You can also wonder at the thoughts of earnest BBC bigwigs at a loss for something dramatic to pull on the eve of Euro 2012. Two Salut! Sunderland writers placed themselves in the relevant minds …

With M Salut still suffering IT problems it falls to me pass on MON’s comment’s after yesterday’s hard fought draw. How many of you who could only watch the game on TV, I wonder, shared Alan Hansen’s view, sarcastically expressed, that this was hardly a classic? From my seat in the stand I thought this was as entertaining as 0-0 draws with little to threaten the keepers, gets. The teams were evenly matched, both produced some fine moves and both gave the ball away from time to time. Sixer’s view will follow shortly but for now, here is the manager once again in positive mindset. MD

Sixer’s Sevens: SAFC 0 Tottenham Hotspur 0. A match for the best

Jake: red and white pride

Here Pete Sixsmith captures the glory and shame, hope and despair, excitement and ennui of the Sunderland matchday experience. When, rarely, Pete is absent or delayed, a supersub does it for him and the seven-word verdict is preceded by an asterisk. Pete’s full analysis of the game will usually appear within a day or two.

After the heroics at the Etihad stadium last week, today brought another creditable draw against top-notch opposition – this time without the sense that we really ought to have won – in the early game at home to Spurs. Absorbing, said Nick Barnes; fair, said Gary Bennett; well satisfied, implied Sixer’s verdict (below).

SAFC v Spurs for mugs: the correct score is …..

Jake challenges you ...

All Jake’s latest fine work – including a brand new logo for this corner of the site – looked like being in vain until I found a temporary solution to my IT problems. Thanks for bearing with me …

Yes, it is guess the score time again. Usual rules apply but win a book or a Salut! Sunderland mug – suitably modified if you happen to be a Tottenham Hotspur supporter – if you are the first to predict the correct score, using the Comment field below.
