Burton Albion vs SAFC Guess the Score: what could possibly go wrong?

Read on: not just another mug for the winner

Just look at the home and away table. Two wins, a draw and six defeats at home, nine goals scored but 21 shipped.

What a catastrophic home record for any professional football side.

How could any away team and its wonderful support go to the Pirelli Stadium, capacity all of 6,912, without a spring in the step? Sadly the away side at Burton on Saturday is us, our home record makes theirs look quite respectable and we haven’t a clue where the next win is coming from.

Chris Coleman now knows, if he didn’t already have a fairly clear idea, of the enormity of the task he has embraced.

Talk of must-wins is meaningless and not only because Sunderland always struggle to win games they must. But you get the drift.

Pete Sixsmith worried in his report from the 2-1 defeat at Villa about the lack of imposing strength in midfield. We all worry about the parlous state of our goalkeeping. We know, as do opposing managers with a lot less nous than Nigel Clough, how vulnerable we are to quick breakaways and at set pieces. Sixer and Benno as assistant first team coaches anyone?

But is the visit to Burton winnable all the same? Of course it is.

Two-one to them is already taken, by the wonderful Burton Albion “Pieman” – he’s an expert on the quality of pies sold by the Brewers’ opponents; see his Who are You? interview from tomorrow morning – but here’s your chance to guess the score.

A Sunderland-supporting winner will receive a copy of the second volume of Tales from The Red and Whites. A Burton fan, or neutral, will win a suitable alternative.

This could be yours …

Get guessing. First to post the correct score wins but must have a UK delivery address.

Ha’way the Lads.

  1. The eternal optimist 4-0 to the lads I’ve just had £50 double on grabban to score over 30 goals and the lads to finish in top 10 @ 25-1

  2. I feel I am getting closer and hope The Coalman is also getting closer to stopping our defensive frailties but not before we win this 4-3.

  3. No doubt my Burton Albion supporting mates will be in the Great Northern before the game expecting a 3-1 home win. I’d like to think Eric’s 3-1 will win the prize but I’m so glass half empty at the moment I’ll go for 3-1 to the Brewers.

As I can’t win the prize anyone else who wants can also go for this scoreline.

    • It would appear the “Young Master” has prevailed and can now add it to his bulging library of first editions bound in leather.

  4. 0-3 Sunderland. First clean sheet and we’ll go in 0-2 up at half time. Third will come near the end as a tiring Burton push too far and leave themselves exposed to a gazelle like Asoro.

    • Crikey. I overlooked this one. Will a pint next time we meet do, Pete? You’ve copies of the book coming out of your ears

  5. I am your Burton Albion “Who are You?” guest and you’ll see my interview tomorrow. For now, let’s just say Brewers to win 2-1
