Whatever happens at Arsenal, new signings can choose from squad numbers galore

Jake's promises unlimted green kryptonite ...

I am indebted to the official club site safc.com, about to be made easier to navigate and not before time, for this full list of the squad numbers assigned in accordance with the 25-man rules …

2 Phil Bardsley

5 Wes Brown
6 Lee Cattermole
7 Sebastian Larsson
8 Craig Gardner
9 Fraizer Campbell
10 Connor Wickham
11 Kieran Richardson
12 Matt Kilgallon
13 Jordan Pickford
14 Jack Colback
15 David Vaughan
16 John O’Shea
17 Ji Dong-Won
18 David Meyler
19 Titus Bramble
20 Kieren Westwood
22 Simon Mignolet
23 James McClean
24 Carlos Cuellar
25 Louis Saha
27 Ahmed Elmohamady
28 Stephane Sessegnon
33 Ryan Noble
34 Blair Adams

Without even climbing above Blair Adams’s 34, that leaves 10 numbers to be filled; 1, 3-4, 21, 26, 29-33.

Jake off to an early start to the season

Guess the score: Arsenal v SAFC … https://safc.blog/2012/08/saluts-week-fletcher-saga-sahas-second-role-and-guess-the-arsenal-score/

Of course, any new additions – and really, Martin, I’m only joking about ten – would squeeze out some of the above names, though there is leeway. We retain unlimited access to under-21s; the list contains three on my count (Pickford, Wickham and Adams).

And three of the right quality, Mr O’Neill, would just about do for most of us.

These are the rules:

* All Premier League clubs must submit a squad of up to 25 players.

* Each 25-man squad must include at least eight ‘home-grown’ players.

* A home grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

* In addition to the 25-man named squad, clubs can use an unlimited number of players aged 21 or under. An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2012/13 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1991.

  1. Interesting we haven’t got a number 1. MON’s man management saying to the keepers no-one’s place is assured or just not wanting to upset Westwood?

  2. I’ve just run my eyes down that list. I think it contains 14 full internationals, five medal winners and some players who have not yet come of age as footballers but have as much potential as many young players.

Yes, we need a striker or two. Yes, we might benefit from a dedicated left back. Any squad can be improved. I hope this one is.

Having said that, I’ve seen weaker squads do OK. Having been around a while I breathe easier after 40 points and I think this lot can get it. That wil give us a base from which to reach for Europe and perhaps a bit of silver.
    Keep the faith, Alan
