The recurring question in our Who Are they? series invites the opposing fan to say which club he/she regards in much the same way as we regard Newcastle – or to seize high moral ground and declare that he/she is far too grown-up for that sort of thing. Pete Sixsmith will never be too grown-up….

Reports that Mike Ashley feels he may be assaulted by angry Toon fans have not gone down well in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where he has been trying to offload the crisis stricken club. Supporters’ groups have stressed that all protests must be non-violent. Many fans have been insulted by the idea that Ashley or his children would be harmed if they visited the ground. Frank Gilmour of the Newcastle United Independent Supporters’ Association said yesterday: “I don’t this it’s fair to say the fans would behave in that way.”

A man who is the double of Mike Ashley was attacked in a pub after being mistaken for the hated Newcastle United owner. Season ticket holder Alan McKenna was enjoying a drink in the Chicago Rock Cafe in Chester le Street when a man who thought he was Ashley took a swing at him..


That should wipe a few million quid off Fat Mike’s asking price.
