‘Who are You?’ awards: Everton, Wigan and both Manchesters contest Villa’s crown

Salut! Sunderland’s awards season is back.

Every Sunderland match is preceded by an interview with a fan, who may be famous, unknown or somewhere in between, of our opponents. And at the end of each season, provided we can find generous benefactors, there are prizes for the best resulting Question and Answer sessions.

The season is done and dusted and judging is nearly over, too, in the great “Who are You?” awards for 2012-2013.

Monsieur Salut is delighted to be able to announce that prizes will again be supplied by:

soccerpro

Soccerpro.com: online US purveyors of soccer jerseys and soccer shoes.

and …

wsc

The famously Half Decent football magazine, When Saturday Comes

The 2013 winners will choose items worth up to US$200 from soccer.pro. Second prize will be an annual subscription to WSC and third prize a T-shirt to be chosen from the magazine’s current range (see this link)

In the event of a close run thing for third place, M Salut may throw in a consolation prize from Salut! Sunderland‘s somewhat less well-stocked shop.

Last year’s winner was Stuart Jinks, an Aston Villa fan who has remained a friend of this site. His interview can be seen here: https://safc.blog/2012/05/33797/. I’m sure Stuart – who may be back next season given that we’ve both stayed up – would agree that a National Lottery jackpot could hardly have changed his life more.

As for the 2012-2013 season, the truth is that the vast majority of interviewees did such a marvellous job with our questions that we would happy to see any of them step up to the winners’ podium.

But winners there must be.

As things stand and, in no particular order as someone else is fond of saying, the interviewees in the running for first to third places represent the following clubs: poor old relegated but grand new cup-winning Wigan, both Manchesters, also-relegated Reading plus Everton, Swansea, Reading, Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur and – from Sunderland’s mighty cup exploits – Morecambe.

Jake needs to know ...
Jake needs to know who’s won …

The decision will be announced soon. Watch this space and in the meantime, check out some of the candidates at the following generic link:

Extract:

There is naturally a respectable argument for a default system of keeping disciplinary matters in-house or saying publicly no more than needs saying.

There is an even stronger case for leaving players who have essentially failed in their jobs in not the slightest doubt that exemplary and, if necessary, public punishment awaits anyone daft enough to act in a way liable to bring their club or themselves into disrepute.
