Podcast! Back to the league, gulp…

It's back to reality in the league...
It’s back to reality in the league…

Well, we’re getting into severe cliché territory. Every game is a cup final and all that. With the fixtures we have remaining, you look at half of them as winnable and half of them as, well, not. But we’re all too familiar with Sunderland doing that thing where they turn winnable games into dour disasters. Credit has to go to the opposition, but our inability to break down solid, well drilled units at home is a major concern at this stage of the season.

I reckon we need to win four more games and that should give us a great chance of staying up. What better way to get off the mark than to beat Crystal Palace at home on Saturday. Easy, eh? Not quite. The mood on the pod was anxious to say the least. The general feeling is that Palace will be no pushover. Tony Pulis has done a very decent job of making them a tough prospect and at the moment they look a banker for survival. So fair play to him.

But how will Gus go about breaking down The Eagle’s resolute back line? The cup experiment didn’t really produce any glaring positive answers. We go over that defeat, and I moan a lot less about that defeat than Goldy wanted me to. He was as disappointed about that as he was about the loss on Sunday I think. We talk Cattermole again, Bridcutt and opportunities for youth and developing players in modern British football.

Helping us out in the studio was Luke Ball. This was his second pod appearance and he was every bit as engaging as he was on the first occasion. We also had a bit of help on the phone from The Roker Report’s Nick Holden. Which was nice. We got a Palace perspective from Jim Daly. He’s a jack of all trades, but he’s involved with the excellent Five Year Plan podcast and fanzine.

So you can find us on iTunes or listen on Soundcloud below. Enjoy!
