Blackpool 3 Cardiff 2: Salut! shares Jimmy Armfield’s joy

Just a quick acknowledgement that the result we wanted, a Blackpool victory in the Championship playoff final, came to pass.

As the goals flew in during the first half of a game the BBC called “at times breathtaking”, one Salut! Sunderland regular, watching in Canada, urged all his mates on the Blackcats e-mail loop to drop all else to tune in.

Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley had put Cardiff ahead twice, each time cancelled out by the Seasiders (Charlie Adam and Gary Taylor-Fletcher) with Brett Ormerod getting the winner before halftime.

Having been beaten twice in playoff finals, Sunderland fans know all about the pain Cardiff City are feeling tonight.

But bravo Blackpool, welcome to the Premier and thanks for making your old hero, Jimmy Armfield, a happy man.
Who cares about the Champions’ League?

And we hope, provided this doesn’t affect Sunderland adversely, that it’ll turn out to be more than one high season.
