Newcastle United v Sunderland: mildly important game, prize Guess the Score

MagsA

Biggest in history
– and you see Jake wondering about that above – it may or may not be, but we do know rather a lot rides on Newcastle United v Sunderland.

Two of the three sides battling for the one obvious position of safety meet with all the baggage of not only a nerve-shredding relegation scrap but a long tradition of enmity and rivalry given the added spice of opposing managers who, shall we say, have not always got along too well.

And on top of that is the recent past for Wear-Tyne-Wear derbies in which Sunderland have won six in a row, seven if the recent romp in a friendly behind closed SoL doors is taken into account.

In the end, victory for either side may not even matter if both return pointless from visits to the third team with designs on fourth bottom, Norwich City.

So guess the score if you dare.

Classic Football Shirts have entered into the spirit of the occasion and offered a £25 voucher to the winner, who shall be the first reader to predict the correct scoreline in the comments below.

  1. I hope it’s 6-0 to Newcastle but it will be much tighter than that. It will be a very nervous afternoon for both sets of fans.

What I’d really like to see is us both stay up and Crystal Palace not to iwn another game and go down with Villa & Norwich.

  2. Classic can’t afford to lose game, Sunderland
are due a clean sheet, Newcastle have problems
scoring, a nervous 0-0. It would suit both teams.

  3. I think it will be very tight. Two anxious teams desperate for a clean sheet.
Defoe could be the difference. 1-0 to Sunderland.

  4. i’ll take any type of away win but for a competition entry it’ll have to be Them 1 Sunderland 2 🙂

  5. Attempting to be objective and leave off my SAFC glasses I cannot see any other result than a comprehensive SAFC victory PROVIDED that we keep them out for the first 20/25 minutes or so.

If we manage to do that then the home support will start to get on their backs and (yet again) their players will wilt under the pressure.

My forecasted scoreline is NUFC 1 – SAFC 3.
