Sunderland give Arsenal Ladies tough fight for semi-final place


Salut! Sunderland congratulates the Sunderland Women’s team for putting up what seems to have been another excellent display, this time against Arsenal, before a late winner put the Gunners through to the FA Women’s Cup semi-finals.

Sad to relate, the game was not shown on French TV and I knew better than to go to the official SAFC site for news of it. So thanks are due to the Shields Gazette and Arsenal Ladies’ website for keeping us informed.

They've done it!

This is the moment Sunderland Women’s Football Club knew they had beaten much-fancied Lincoln City to advance into the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Cup.

The prize is a 6th round tie at home to Arsenal, who will start favourites but arrive at Hetton knowing they face determined opposition.

Who said Arsenal’s season was disintegrating?

Well, after the Carling Cup final defeat against Birmingham, a task too great at the Nou Camp and a 2-0 exit from the FA Cup at Old Trafford – not to mention finding Sunderland impossible to beat at the Emirates somewhere in between – quite a few have harboured such such thoughts.

And now, they may be in for another setback.
