Remember the fans who appeared, with varying success, in the fly-on-the-wall television documentary, Premier Passions, which revealed in excruciatingly fine detail the behind-the-scenes goings on at Sunderland under Peter Reid?
From Martyn McFadden, editor of A Love Supreme, comes news of another project aimed at capturing the support of SAFC on film.
David Hepple, a Boldon-born Sunderland fan now living in London, is working on a film that “tells the story of a Sunderland fan’s love of his club and his struggle to come to terms with the other things in his life”. That certainly rings a bell, as anyone who has ploughed through this weeks’ Club versus Country series will recognise.
Back to David. As part of his project, he has created a short introduction to the character and this can be seen in the YouTube clip above.
“I’m very keen to get the opinions of Sunderland fans on this,” he says, “and more specifically to hear of times when they have experienced challenges relating to Sunderland and the other parts of their lives – work, relationships, family etc.”
Reading between the lines, therefore, he has his character but wants anecdotes, case histories etc to flesh out those he can already inject into his script from personal experience or knowledge.
Contact David direct – at davidhepple@hotmail.com – if you think you can help. It sounds like a reward-in-heaven proposition, so demand a cut if the film makes him a fortune.
His film has Salut! Sunderland‘s blessing provided he doesn’t get Gina McKee to narrate the script as if she were a lifelong, passionate fan only to claim later that she was just playing a part.

I think professionals call them pingbacks. Find me a sponsor, or double the length of each of my days, and I’ll have them chopped!
I try to devote a small portion of each day to laughing at Newcastle and yawning about Middlesbrough.
Colin, what’s with the odd and utterly meaningless little responses that keep cropping up here? There are one or two heading the response list on most of your posts.
What “other parts of their lives”? Surely Sunderland AFC is the ONLY thing in peoples lives?
