The return of Sixer’s Sevens

Sixer is back. Salut! Sunderland’s inimitable summariser and sage, our chronicler and waffler supreme, sums up every SAFC match – well nearly every one – from the moral high ground of having been there. Agree or disagree with his seven-word verdict as you will, but they come from the heart and will appear as soon after each final whistle as we can manage (which sometimes may not be very soon at all). If an asterisk precedes the comment, the words that follow are the work of someone else. Like with the quick note of pre-match encouragement below. We’ll start the new season with a clean sheet – and try to get ourselves a new photo of the great man, too – but you can see what he had to say about games past by clicking here

  1. I love Sixer’s Sevens.

One of the funniest comments I ever heard Pete make (and there have been a few) came when an ageing Willie Donnachie seeing out the Autumn of his footballing days at Oldham Athletic came down in front of us in the CSP to take a throw in. It was unusually quiet until Pete piped up with the unforgettable; “Don’t you think it’s time you packed in Donnachie and gave a 35 year old a chance?”

The halcyon days of the CSP. Great memories.
