Steve Bruce: ‘a great response’

A much more welcome greeting from Steve Bruce arrived by Hotmail tonight …

Dear Colin,

Anyone who was here three days ago will know just what football’s like.

We had 30-odd attempts on goal against Blackpool in the last game and then today our first shot on target beats the goalkeeper via a deflection.

Overall I thought we totally dominated the match – it was one of those comfortable victories.

I’m delighted with the response because everyone was disappointed after Blackpool. This is a big three points for us.

After going ahead, the second goal showed that little bit of quality. Class is permanent and Benty got a wonderful run across the defender for a great training-ground goal.

Blackburn came back slightly and we expected them to have a response. But overall we missed a few opportunities and were very comfortable.

We could have done with scoring the third goal with 25 minutes to go because the shackles come off when the third goal goes in. When it did everyone was trying to run riot.

We’ve invested a lot of money in the top end of the pitch. Against Blackpool we were disappointed but today the strikers all had two chances each and took one of them.

Asamoah took his opportunity remarkably well after missing some chances the other day.

It was a comfortable victory and a great response.

All the best,

Steve Bruce
