Pete Sixsmith reports from Milton Keynes where Lee Cattermole’s reminder that his dark side has not been overcome – “sent off for a late lunge” having a familiar ring – did not stop Sunderland’s onward march in the League Cup. A classic Gardner free kick and a neat McClean dribble and finish sealed it …[/caption]

He’s started the season well CSB, and my irritation with him is partly down to being lulled into a false sense of security, thinking that his recklessness had been reined in. It was a short lived hope. He can’t be allowed to continue like this forever. Arguably it has gone on too long already.
He’s a nutter. A complete liability as CSB says. His lack of discipline is atrocious. He will never learn. I’m not the biggest fan of Cattermole as a player and far from convinced about his importance to the team as some of our fans seem to be. Regardless of whether they are right and I’m wrong, his continuing stream of red cards is just unacceptable. Tonight we were strong enough to thankfully overcome a tricky side with a man short. That is not something which we can afford in the Premier League. 7 sendings off in his career. 5 of which have been with us. i don’t think O”Neill will have much patience with this for a whole lot longer. He’s the proverbial accident waiting to happen. The lad’s crackers. He has no self control whatsoever.
Jeremy I see your frustration shining through about Catts again. I think he can/does do a job for the side, his form in the Prem so far has been decent. But getting sent off in the League Cup against lower division opposition (no slur intended) is seriously questionable. As expressed above, against a higher standard of opposition it would have proved costly.
The Captaincy is now an issue again and I don’t think Catts is the person best suited to it.
He’s out the Newcastle game now.
He’s out the Newcastle game now.
Goldy
That’s a relief Goldy the last thing we want is a ten man team against them
Good to see Gardner and McClean on the score sheet, Gardner especially deserves it for his current form.
Cattermole at it again, will he ever learn or is he just a libility. Luckily his red did not pull the wings of our progression in the competition but it could have proved costly. What do you do with him, the proverbial loose cannon in the side.
