Jake is underwhelmed by the prizes

Roll up for the latest instalment in Salut! Sunderland‘s jolly little competition designed to tease out of someone the correct scoreline for each forthcoming match.

Just add a comment giving your idea of how West Ham United v Sunderland will end.

The first correct answer, whether or not held for moderation before being published, will win its poster one of our famous/infamous Martin O’Neill mugs, suitably adapted if a Hammers fan is the winner. SAFC historians will know why anyone correctly guessing at an 8-0 home win faces instant disqualification.

Monsieur Salut’s decision
will, as ever, be final. And that’s not the only thing that is final. This will also be the last competition of its kind – that is to say with a prize on offer to the first reader to guess the score correctly – until further notice.

Simple truth is that it starts to get expensive to stump up for a prize week in, week out. The site exists predominantly on the goodwill of those who give up their time on its behalf and probably needs to generate some income before it can once again put up prizes that have not been donated.

M Salut will try to dream up a way of making the feature self-sufficient. One possibility might be to make the prize a voucher that can be used when making purchases from the Salut! Sunderland shop, perhaps once a few more items have been added and the purchasing process has been simplified.

Or we could even continue the competition but purely for fun.

Time will tell. For now, Ha’way the Lads at Upton Park, the Boleyn, the Bubbles Emporium or whatever else you choose to call the pre-Olympic Stadium ground of WHFC.

    • “moongod” made that forecast in the first post.

If you are hoping to “Party with a Marty mug” you need to choose again.

  1. As my intended prediction has already been snaffled I’m going for West Ham 0 Sunderland 8. Steven Fletcher will punch in the first goal a la Geoff Hurst to right a terrible wrong inflicted upon us in, I believe, October 1968.

  2. Sorry to be negative here lads but W Ham 2 S’land 1. We will still be looking for our first win of the season when we leave the Boleyn Ground.

      • Blimey that was a close call, 93rd minute as well, we should have closed the game down though and maybe nicked all three points, disappointing for the lads but overjoyed to win a mug 🙂
