One big festival. Two big games. Two big chances to win Guess the Score.
The first bit is easy. Salut! Sunderland‘s tireless team of writers and illustrators – all, or nearly all, fellow supporters of that great thing that is SAFC – offers all readers, from near and far, a wonderful Christmas.
The wonder of the festive season would ideally include points on the board. Can we notch a fourth victory of the season – pathetic as that sounds – at St Mary’s? Can we emulate last season’s astonishing last-gasp win over Man City?
We’ll leave Spurs at home until next week.
For now, have a go at guessing the scores of the forthcoming games at Southampton on Saturday and at home to City on Boxing Day.
Be the first to get one right and you qualify for the buy-two, win-two Martin O’Neill mug offer. That means spending £19, post-free in the UK, for £38 worth of mugs.
Get both right – and be the first to do so, necessarily before kickoff, whenever you post each prediction – and Monsieur Salut will cease to play Scrooge. Two mugs for free. Try not to win if you live a long way away and force me to pay postage!
You can make your predictions in one go or wait until after the Southampton game before saying how you think SAFC v Man City will end up. But you don’t “do the double” unless both score predictions and right – and first to be so.
As ever, non-Sunderland fans are warmly invited to join in, whether for the mugs or just for fun. The mug design would be amended accordingly for a Saints or City winner.
But forgive M Salut for a hearty Ha’way to Lads to Sunderland for both games …

Who’d have guessed two wins for the Lads? None of the above!
S’ton 3 SAFC 2
SAFC 0 man City 2
No Santa for us this year.
Ever hopeful:
Southampton 1 Sunderland 3
Ian said “Southampton 1 Sunderland 4”
My goodness, I hope I get a bottle of that for Christmas. In fact a half bottle would last until Easter.
1-1 at the ground that wishes it was as good as the Stadium of Light. 1-2 I’m afraid to the men from the stadium that thinks it’s as good as the Stadium Of Light (but isn’t).
Southampton 1 Sunderland 4
One of these days, our team are going to hand out a right hiding to someone. I’m guessing its going to be on Saturday. Mark my words.
My team:
Mignolet
Gardner , O Shea, Cuellar, Rose
AJ, Laarson, Vaughn, Sess
Fletcher, Wickham
Pretend heirs to the Red and White Shirts 1 – True owners of the Stripes 3. Will batter them.
Lads 0 – Real Mancs 3. Not feeling good about this one.
Aren’t they playing in an all red kit this year with just the thinnest of lines on the shirt? Not even pretend owners of the stripes. Don’t think either game will see Sunderland scoring five or keeping a clean sheet so I’m ducking out on this one!
Southampton 1 Sunderland 4
Sunderland 2 City 2
I have been at the cooking sherry!!!!
Saints 1-3 Sunderland
Sunderland 0-2 Man City 🙁
It’s my birthday on New Years Day, so I’ll be expecting the complimentary mug anyway – surely the staff get these for their birthdays?
Saints 0 Us 1
Us 1 Citeh 1
Southampton 1 SAFC 2, Christmas comes early,
SAFC 1 Man City 2, Boxingday Blues I’m afraid – short of a minor miracle.
Three points would be good, four very good for this section of the Christmas fixtures.
