Martin’s Musings from SAFC 1 Chelsea 3: disappointment in defeat but fight in the dressing room

It appears the manager’s personal e-mails to M. Salut are getting shorter as the weeks go by, but fair play to him he continues to send them. As ever he finds the positives from a game where the outcome was anything but.


Dear Colin,

It was a fantastic effort by the team and I think that effort was appreciated by the crowd.

I thought we should have got something out of the game.

We put our heart and soul into it and the penalty kick just before half-time was a major setback for us.

Their third goal just after half-time made it a real struggle for us to get back in the game, but we managed to do just that.

[Adam] Johnson’s goal gave us renewed hope and the fans got behind us.

It was a real battle to the end.

We hit the bar near the end and had a few balls go across the six yard box just waiting to be put in the back of the net.

The players are very disappointed; there’s still plenty of fight in the dressing room.

  1. The same Collymore who tweeted MON had offered his resignation…was he right about that? It set off a media frenzy which has contributed to the howling for MON’s head…though not on this blog which usually offers more insight in a week than Collymore has offered in is lifetime. Apropos the accusation of SAFC being second rate …as well as Torres…I often think such accusations say more about the accuser than the accused. It’s not enough to bandy labels about. We need a long term view.

  4. Now it’s not often I agree with Stan Collymore. In fact, I never agree with Stan Collymore. But just consider this offering in his column this morning in the Sunday People, in reference to Torres. “He stuck 2 away against a second-rate team in midweek and the fact that he is only scoring against teams like that etc”. Says it all. Gotta go, we’re on MOTD.

  5. “had a few balls go across the six yard box just waiting to be put in the back of the net”. If the bloody midfielders got up in support a bit more often then maybe, just maybe, this might actually happen.
