Sixer’s Sevens: SAFC 1 Tottenham Hotspur 2: Cats fail to hold on as Spurs fight back

After the attempts of the hackers to prevent you seeing Pete Sixsmith’s seven word assessment we are back up and running thanks to the techie wizards. Unfortunately there was a lack of wizardry on the pitch and despite taking a first half lead the Lads just couldn’t do enough to earn a point. Pete’s summation.

    • As practised at Roker Park by the legend that is Joe Bolton. Opposing players used to end up on the cinder track, now they fall on nice soft grass.

  1. This is one of the most unwelcome things in modern football Jake. We are facing the risk that all physical contact is considered a foul these days. Bale looks to make every example of “contact” into a foul as you correctly say. He should realise that a player of his ability has not need to do so. Had he continued on his charge past Gardner it would have been a thing of beauty, whereas he dive has garnered comments for the shame it is.

    • This is highlighted by so called pundits like Alan Hansen who argued again on MOTD that if there is any contact the player should go down.

Last week in the Arsenal v Wigan game he said that a) Walcott was “entitled” to go down because of minimal contact. He also said that whilst a Wigan player (Kone maybe?) would earn plaudits because he didn’t go over in the box he felt that his team mates would question his “professionalism” because he stayed on his feet.

But if Bale’s fall was worth a booking why wasn’t Defoe’s?

  2. “People think I’m diving when there’s contact,” said the Welshman, who fell when challenged by Sunderland’s Craig Gardner in the penalty area after 80 minutes at the Stadium of Light.
    “If there’s contact it’s a penalty or free-kick”
NO IT’S NOT YOU SOFT GET! If you’re impeded it’s a foul, if somebody merely makes contact with you it’s not.

  3. Shame about the o.g. but these things happen. Even bigger shame about Gareth Bale doing a double back somersault in the pike position but these things happen, too. All the time. The bugger really should have been on the British Olympic team. But at least the ref caught it and he’ll be out for a couple of games. Don’t suppose he’ll learn from that, though.

  4. Beaten by the better, stronger and faster team today. What is worrying is that we didn’t make Lloris into a save after we had scored. No real craft to open their defence and yet another wasteful performance from Johnson who increasingly looks like a terrible waste of money. He looks half interested at best for most of the time.

Simon Mignolet was magnificent yet again, and of note was the recovery to save Cuelllar’s blushes by preventing Adebayor having a clear shot on goal from point blank range. It was one of the best examples of top notch goalkeeping that you will ever see, without actually making the save. He forced Adebayor into lifting the ball high on to the bar. An astonishing piece of goalkeeping which will probably not get the same attention his point blank save from Defoe which was also breathtaking stuff.
