Guess the Score had become a bit of a chore. Week after week, loyal Sunderland fans would predict narrow or comfortable wins in the full knowledge that a somewhat different result was a lot more likely.
But what’s this? Suddenly we’ve gone from relegation to top six form. Three wins out of four, two of them back-to-back, and a third successive 1-0 home victory over moneybags Citeh. For once no one could bring themselves to put their hands up for a forecast of three points at Southampton and another three at home to Man Cityo
Heaven knows what this means for Saturday.
Let it just be said that the last Guess the Score competition of 2012 is open.
Tell me in the Comments below what you reckon the scoreline will be when we take on high-flying Spurs. Be the first to get it right, before 1245 on matchday, and you know the rest: buy two Martin O’Neill mugs, suddenly back in fashion (though the Salut! Sunderland sales dept has been asleep through lack of work for months) and you get two more. That’s four for £19, post-free in the UK.
Read the brilliant Spurs edition of Who are You: https://safc.blog/2012/12/tottenham-who-are-you-rare-charmless-morons-or-have-we-hadron-too-many/
The interview is pretty good, as was Jeremy Robson’s comment: “Spurs are a little bit like The Kinks. They were allegedly pretty good but it was so far ahead of my time that it doesn’t really matter and those who claim to remember are so close to their own senility that their recollection may not be relied upon any longer.”
But if you resent winning a prize that asks you to fork out before you can get your hands on it, just enter for fun.
The mug design would be amended in the event of a Tottenham winner who bizarrely chose the buy-two/get-two-free mugs option.
Monsieur Salut is heading north for the match so may well be site-silent for a couple of days.
Ha’way the Lads …

Too late for it to matter (and no predictions league this week?) but I was going for 2-2. And Arsenal to beat the Mags 3-1.
Surprised that nobody has gone for the obvious result.
SAFC 1 Spuds 1
Sunderland 5 – Spurs 0
Head says Sunderland 1 Spurs 3
Heart says Sunderland 2 Spurs 1
Man next door is a spud, so I will go for 3-1 (to us).
2-2 with Meyler making a good return pushing Colback to LB. Sess and Fletch to score. Bale and Defoe for Spurs. Bale to pick up a yellow for simulation.
Also as it’s half way into the season I’m going to predict 26 points from the 2nd half taking us to 48pts and 9th place.
Crowd to be 41879…..lower due to being on Sky
Finally I predict a nationwide drive to improve the grammar and syntax of the yoofs such as Coys.
Go on then, I’ll take the 0-0.
A sneaky little 1-0 to the lads, FTM
2-1 Spurs. No Danny Rose and no points.
The winner. Fitzy69 may either sit back and enjoy the glory or defy CSB and actually find a use for four mugs
2-2. 2 for Norman Stanley, 2 for Defoe. 3 fans to be hoyed out for standing.
Loool numpty northerners were gonna school your behind London style 3-1 spurs
Is there a translater in the house, please at least put your drivel through a spell checker prior to posting.
I appreciate that English is not necessarily most Londerners first language but please do try harder.
“school your behind London style” eh? I’ve heard a lot of it goes on around the Kings Cross area.
Every club should have one, just as every parliament should have a George Galloway
““Spurs are a little bit like The Kinks. They were allegedly pretty good but it was so far ahead of my time that it doesn’t really matter and those who claim to remember are so close to their own senility that their recollection may not be relied upon any longer.”
That doesn’t make sense!
How can something be so far AHEAD of ones time that recollections should be questioned.
Did Jeremy, perhaps, mean BEFORE?
For what it’s worth though – and however it may reflect upon my approaching senility, I rated the Kinks from the first time I heard “You’ve Really Got Me”.
It also reflects my thoughts re SAFC!
Regarding Saturday, I’m hoping for more but think it could well end up 1-1.
will Rose play?
Not allowed.
Sunderland 0-2 Tottenham
Bale and Defoe.
Sunderland 2 Spurs 1, a close encounter that rounds off a good three back to back wins in 2012.
Quite what to do with four MON mugs may prove to be more of a challenge, although there’s always Christmas 2013……..
