This is where Pete Sixsmith records his instant verdict, in seven words, on each Sunderland game. The result went to script but PDC can take heart from a performance that was far better than most this year. Two wicked deflections cost us; we can but hope that the decent display fires the team for the coming tasks, starting at Newcastle United. This is a quick, emergency and no-frills posting of Sevens and Bob Chapman is the supersub in Sixer’s absence from the game

First half was good. But we just could never keep that up for 90 mins against a very good Chelsea team, one that you felt really never got going.Stamford Bridge sounded like a morgue in the first half thanks to out gutsy performance.
But when you are at the bottom your luck always runs out and Chelsea made theirs with Torres tearing a huge hole in our defense to open it up for their first goal. The players they had on the bench would be all in our starting line up.(keeper excepted)
We will need that steel next week, but they’d better be prepared to go the distance this time, any weakness will be punished.
I think we showed more desire, bite and most importantly, actually got some bodies in the box. Good signs.
With MON in charge, I would say I was 80% sure of going down. With PDC in charge, now I am more like 70%.
Next week’s match is crucial. Hopefully with the mags feeling more safe, and their injury list, we might get a win there. I know PDC will have them fitter, more positive and more dangerous. Sess looked good, Wickham looked ok.
We’ll see…
Running out of games though. Pity QPR couldn’t hold on – although they are down with Reading. Looks like it is between us, Villa, Wigan and Stoke. The Observer had Stoke finishing below us on goal difference and taking the trips to Blackpool, Bolton etc.
Me, I’m not so sure. I fear the worst.
It looks like it’s between us Villa, Wigan and Stoke and suspect now that it’s about who get’s lucky……so that won’t be us then. But it’s in our own hands thankfully.
The odds were always against us to get anything at Stamford Bridge, so was luck and some poor decision making in promising situations.
But still some attacking intent on display! FTM
