Sunderland vs WBA: the penultimate Guess the Score, with thanks to Guingamp

Nolwenn Leroy is not only an uncommonly canny lass but a great Breton (not the same, except literally, as Great Briton) singer. On Saturday night, she sang her heart out for the Lads with this superb rendition of Brittany’s anthem, which the Welsh and Cornish-speaking Cornish may well recognise, both sets of Lads being Breton, Rennes and Guingamp, in the French cup final at the Stade de France. Guingamp (Nolwenn’s own preference, believe) won 2-0 against more fancied opponents. I hope and believe we can match that result at home to West Brom and – outrageous point-scoring/deducting challenges from Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff notwithstanding – dodge the arrows for one more season.

Guess the Score here.
Use superstition, ritual, hope, faith, prayer, loyalty as you wish. Just have a go.

WBA fans and neutrals are welcome to join in.

It’s not entirely for fun. Indeed, fun may not truly enter into to it for SAFC fans. But everyone’s welcome to join in. A WBA winner would receive the prize – the wonderful Salut! Sunderland mug – in suitably amended form.

Monsieur Salut’s decision shall be final. But essentially, the winner is the Lad or Lass who correctly predicts the scoreline, before kickoff, in Comments below.

Here's one we made earlier (two sides of the same one)

All recipients of the mug so far have seemed happy with their purchase/win. There are now several readers waiting for theirs – including the superb Malcolm Ray, who correctly put us down for 1-0 at Old Trafford – and the winner of this last-but-one Guess the Score of the season will wait with them for delivery. I desperately want the design to bear some upbeat message.

Ha’way the Lads. And wherever you are in the world, roar them on against WBA.

  1. Ha’way lads and lasses this is Sunderland we’re on about! You surely can’t think we won’t be biting our nails on Sunday.

  2. I’m having another go this week, and think that we will take the bounce out of the boing boing and will run riot, clearing the boundary with a whopping six without reply

  3. I think we will be very nervous – and Albion are a bogey team. However I think we will get the point we need. 1-1

  4. Although I like West Brom, the worst game I ever saw was against them at the SoL. I’ll go for 1-0 to us.

  5. SAFC 3- 0 WBA. We continue to do what we couldn’t for the majority of the season!

But any result, just as long as we win.

  6. Don’t tinker with anything Gus. That OT performance was immense and our 10 points from 12 have been truly deserved.

    3-1 home win.

  7. Can’t we have one of WB’s superb new home strips for next year as the prise. 2-0 to Sunderland should win it. And well done EAG!

    • You’re not getting one of those horrendous strips but you will be getting a mug. Bravo: I’ll be in touch
