Bienvenue Dame N’Doye: from Jeanne d’Arc to Sunderland via Trabzonspor

Love the Judi Dench-like first name
, love the idea that a potentially exciting Senegalese striker could soon be turning out for Sunderland.

Welcome, Dame N’Doye, 30, on loan from the Turkish club Trabzonspor until the end of the season. Who knows what might happen then?

N’Doye will wear the number 10 shirt. That’s a number with a grand SAFC pedigree.

This is how safc.com put it:

‘The 6’1” striker began his career in his native Senegal with Jeanne d’Arc before heading to Europe with Portuguese side Academica before moves to Greece with Panathinaikos and OFI Crete.

The imposing frontman enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at FC Copenhagen where he picked up UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience while scoring 59 goals in 104 appearances.

A similarly prolific spell with Lokomotiv Moscow earned N’Doye a move to Hull City where he scored five goals in 15 appearances at the end of the 2014-15 Barclays Premier League season.
At international level, he has been a regular for the Lions of Teranga since making his debut in 2010, most recently at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking about the signing, Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce said: “Dame will bring something different to our forward options.
“Having already played in the Premier League he should have no problems in hitting the ground running too, which is very important at this stage of the season”.
The striker will not be available for this weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur as he completes the formalities pertaining to his work visa.’

  1. He looks quick and seems to be able to score with both of his feet and head, but the opposition he faced in the videos looked to be of Division 4 standard.Other than that I liked the look of him and think he will help us get out of the mess were in?

  2. My fault, Vince. Had to post in a hurry and couldn’t immediately get the club’s ok to use a still of him . The YouTube clip has the right look to it so I grabbed it unseen

  3. Always sceptical of these type of videos, but to be fair he looks strong and capable. What an awful soundtrack, had to watch in mute, whoever did that vid is tone deaf.
