There is already a Guess the Score prize competition running for SAFC v Tottenham at this link. Check it out if you haven’t already.
Tomorrow (Sunday) I leave on holiday, entrusting the safe stewardship of the site to Malcolm, John, Pete and Jake in the knowledge that there will also be a steady stream of first-rate contributions from Wrinkly Pete, Bob Chapman, Ken Gambles and so many more, who will have the foresight to send their words to salutsunderland@gmail.com as well as to me.
And for the small matter of taking nine points from the three games in my absence on holiday, I leave the club in the safe hands of David Moyes and our splendid players, who will naturally be welcoming some top new colleagues before Wednesday.
To simplify matters, this posting will serve as the Guess the Score for Crystal Palace away and Southampton at home.
It is a partisan double-prize competition in each case – be first to predict the correct winning Sunderland scoreline and you will receive two mugs, sent to a UK delivery address. Be correct – and first – with any other kind of scoreline and you win one.
Palace and Saints fans are warmly invited to take part, subject to the same rule. If that sounds discriminatory, it’s meant to. This posting will remain at the top of the site’s home page until the Southampton game is played.
Ha’way the Lads.
After a very unexpected or significant win Sunderland often come back down to earth and draw their next game 2-2. It’s happened a few times during this latest PL run. The most notable three are:
1st game of 2007 – Spurs (1-0), Birmingham (2-2).
“That” Chelsea game of 2010 – Chelsea (3-0), Everton (2-2).
Clinching Everton game of 2016 – Everton (3-0), Watford (2-2).
So – SAFC 2-2 Saints
Sunderland 3, Saints 1
Southampton 1, SAFC 4.
Nobody predicted we would score four.
And in the first half too!
Palace 0 – 2 Sunderland
Sunderland 2 – 0 Saints
Arrgh! Just spotted Mike’s 3-2 so will go for The Lads 4-3 The Saints.
This is my second attempt at contributing. My first is up in “the cloud” somewhere.
I think that the 4-3 win I have already predicted for the Spurs game might be a tad optimistic so have gone for a 3-3 (only) draw v Palace with PVA scoring at both ends and being culpable in both our other goals. ( moi, bitter?)
We will beat Saints 3-2, with Long missing an open goal thus denying my favoured score this season of 3-3.
Those eagle-eyed amongst you will have spotted this is a departure from my “SOS” forecast of a defeat but I NEED ANOTHER MUG.
The Lads to win 2-1 at Palace and 3-2 against Saints and a badly needed 6 pts.
Palace 2-1 to the Eagles.
Saints 1-1.
I don’t feel hopeful at present. Enjoy your holiday.
Palace away, not a bad place in recent years: 1-1
Soton home: 2-1 to Sunderland.
I’ve already done my prediction forSpurs.
1-0 to the lads in both games
