John McCormick writes: I didn’t hear David Moyes in his pre-match interview. Apparently he sounded very relaxed and pleased with the players he’d brought in (or could it have been because of one he’d got out?).
And after the game? I still haven’t heard him but I did get a copy of his post-game message. Here it is:
It was a massive win for us; really important.
“It was good, especially the support we had. With the way the game was set up – with us coming down, Sam and Patrick – it was good to win it.
“We did a good job on Tuesday [against Spurs] and that gave us a little bit of confidence. We didn’t play awfully well then but we were better today and passed the ball better.
“There were some really good goals and I’m pleased for the supporters to be able to come down here and see us get a good victory away from home.
“We took our chances. I thought we looked a much bigger threat all over the pitch.
“Overall I’m really pleased. Jermain is a predator and scores us goals, and it was good for Didier to get his first goal and Lamine to get one too.
“I asked the fans to show their colours and they certainly did that! They gave us great support as always and the team were great for them as well.

Having players back and new signings settling in quickly seem to be transforming the team. I’ve only seen MOTD highlights – Shearer and Wright were certainly giving us a lot of praise. I was a bit surprised by the stats that showed they had a lot more possession, attempts on goal, corners etc. I take it the stats didn’t accurately reflect the difference in quality?
A great win and a great performance. Great to have the Africans back and raring to go, they had a massive impact. Oviedo had a brilliant debut and Gibson fitted in well. Lescott clearly rusty but did well. Forward and upward. PvA and BSA bad day at the office first immpressions are lasting immpressions and winning over the Palace fans become a whole lot harder.
