We all know relegated teams like to turn it on for the swansong. After the meekest of surrenders to Swansea, SAFC players – especially those with an eye on lucrative summer transfers – will accordingly raise their game at Arsenal. Two for Defoe, one more for Billy Jones as we romp to a 3-1 win. Mmm ….
Sunderland AFC: a club that can hire the dross we’ve seen hired and embrace CEOs and directors of football who bring only misery can still find the commercial nous needed to sack backroom staff and get rid of such a SAFC institution as the programme editor, Rob Mason.
We’ve plenty more to say, Messrs Short and Bain, so watch this space.
But now back to the real lifeblood of the club, the fans.
What will happen at the Emirates on Tuesday night? It doesn’t matter a hoot in any real sense. We’ve bitten the dust after morally our worst relegation since Peter Reid’s cash-starved drop in 1997. Decisions made at the top have cost us – and, with any luck, them – dear.
But have a go. Maybe the players who offered such a grotesquely bad impression of Premier Leaaue football against Swansea on Saturday will now, for a London stage, show what they’re capable of. If not for the badge, for themselves.
Sorry to be so cynical. But we shall see.
Here is an extract from our Arsenal “Who are You?” interview:
Salut! Sunderland: what about our dismal season. Did you see it coming?
Jon Ryan, Gooner and former Fleet Street sports editor: there are other teams I would have seen more likely to be relegated than Sunderland. But recent history clearly indicated that something needed to be done … and it wasn’t.
As for GUess the Score, usual rules apply. I cannot see a good reason to offer a prize but feel duty-bound to do so after keeping other recent winner waiting so long for theirs.
Be first with the right scoreline and – whoever you support – there’ll be something in the post provided you have a UK delivery address. I do realise that in North London, expectation may be greater than a prize being a mug. But there you are …
Three – nil to the (not so) boring, boring Arsenal.
We will struggle to get nil.
Gunners 4 – 0 SAFC, probably by half time and
Gunners 7 – 0 SAFC full time, not a hope for us and we will probably not finish with a full compliment of playing staff come the final whistle.
Just as well it matters not a jot to us anyway!!!!
I agree we will score three, who cares who scores. I still fancy the diminutive Sanchez to soar above the towering Kone – just as he did at our place – only this time three times as Kone simply can’t be bothered. It’s 3-3 then. Mrs Wrinkly will be thrilled with her matching mug!
3-1 to Arsenal. A poor first half with Pickford saving our blushes followed by an almost spirited second half.
It’s a terrifying prospect……I think it will be 5-0 at half-time and 6-0 to arsenal at the end.
And don’t apologise for being cynical, I look forward to reading what’s coming up next regarding these charlatans in the boardroom.
2-2
0 – 2
Borini and Defoe.
Nearly got it right v Hull, it’s getting closer and will happen before the season ends.
Ha ha
Since Arsenal not only REALLY need this game but also need to improve their GD viz a viz Manchester City this could be acutely embarrassing for us. I’m not going to predict another one of our southern 8-0 defeats but it could happen. All I’ll say is it will be closer to 8 than 2.
My Arsenal supporting colleague says 6 – 1 to the Arse. Nice that he thinks we may get ONE.
