Sunderland vs Sheffield United Guess the Score: anyone remember winning a home game?

Jake: ‘haway, Monsieur Salut, get your finger out, there’s as many winners waiting for prizes as the Lads had home wins last season ‘

On a mid-December day in 2016,
40,267 souls were recorded as being present when, shortly after 4pm, Patrick van Aanholt, scored the goal that proved a winner against Watford at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland have not won a home game since.

Simon Grayson has had only two SoL games in charge so can hardly be blamed for this lamentable state of affairs. David Moyes can be blamed a lot, as can our want-away ower Ellis Short and his hired-to-be-stingy chief executive Martin Bain.

Can we break this wretched duck – no home wins in a year now in its ninth month – against Sheffield United?

Have a go at guessing the score. It is another prize edition but readers should be aware that there is a minor backlog of winners awaiting their prizes from games earlier this season. There are boring reasons for the delay but I hope these to be resolved once I get back from a week’s holiday (just after this coming weekend). Apologies, nevertheless, are due to those affected.

So this, eventually, is what a Sunderland-supporting winner would receive, the design customised to his or her preference in so far as the name on the shirt is concerned.

The SAFC dressing room mug

A Sheffield United fan – or neutral – winning the prize would receive a mug reflecting his or her footballing allegiance.

The rules are simple: be right, be first to be right and provided your winning answer is posted before kickoff and you have a UK postal address, the mug is yours (eventually). My decision, however, is final.

Ha’way the Lads, and I mean ours.

  1. Just heard that Mike Neville has passed away. Grew up with him on telly every night and when I lived in the Midlands and got Sky TV I always watched the North East news. He was 80 so I’m thinking 8-0 will be a fitting scoreline.

    RIP Mike

  2. Hey been wrong every game this year but got to get it right sometime will stick with my usual 4-0 to the lads someone will get a drubbing haway the lads from the exiled Hampshire Mackem
