John McCormick writes:I couldn’t get the matchday centre, no matter what I tried (and try I did). Various websites were no help because there are no clubs outside the Premiership so I was reliant on Pete Sixsmith and his half time text: “0-0 Better than Saturday but not very inspiring”.
I found the BBC’s text service for the second half. It sounded as if Pete had summarised the first half perfectly. Then came a second text “terrible error by Browning 0-1” One of our ex-players, of course
And that was that, as Pete’s final text, in seven words, no more, no less explained:
September 12 Sunderland 0 (0) Nottingham Forest 1 (o) Some improvement but we lack any punch
September 9 Sunderland 1 (0) Sheffield United 2 (1) no tactics, appalling team selection,
total embarrassment
August 26 Barnsley 3 (2) Sunderland 0 (0) Alarm bells clanging after a dreadful performance
August 22 League Cup: Carlisle United (0) 1 Sunderland (1) 2 Classy finish by Gooch masks scrappy performance
August 19 SAFC 0 (0) Leeds United 2 (1) Weaknesses exposed by a solid Leeds team
August 16 Sheffield Wednesday (0) 1 Sunderland (1) 1 Looked tired in second half. Decent point
August 13 Norwich City 1 (0) Sunderland 3 (1) Very well organised and three cracking goals
August 8 League Cup: Bury 0 (0) Sunderland (0) 1 Hardly convincing but a win’s a win
August 4 2017 Sunderland (1) 1 Derby County (1) 1 Encouraging second half. Something to build on
I’m not a boo boy and I’m not a hypocrite. I know Rodwell’s crap but as I said before Saturday ,he does somehow get a goal now and then. We’re chasing the game and the manager brings Billy Jones on ? That reeks of someone who is scared of the crowd reaction.
Being an embarrassment in the Prem is one thing, to be even more of an embarrassment in the Championship just is unacceptable.
I agree with KevS about the lack of strikers and to add even more pain , we lose to a goal from Murphy – who would have been a better bet than Vaughan
History repeats itself at Sland like nowhere else. Last season we failed to sign a striker as the deadline approached and this season we did the same again. But last season we had Defoe. Now we have Vaughan. Say no more.
It’s almost like 1969 again, when Joe Baker took until boxing day to get his first goal. I can’t see Vaughan ever scoring, let alone boxing day. Will there ever be an end to this torture ?
