In the depths of our despair, it seems beyond belief that interest in one small corner of Sunderland AFC’s world should suddenly perk up.
But in the wake of Tuesday night’s surrender to Aston Villa, Salut! Sunderland’s Facebook group gained three new members. Not spammers, hookers or chancers – we get applictaions from them, too – but from self-evidently genuine Sunderland supporters. We’re now nudging 750 and none, as far as we know, are hookers.
Maybe Chris Coleman should print this out, fold it with something harder curled inside and rap it over the heads of our players and, if he happens to be passing in the corridor, Martin Bain.
It is difficult to know what to say about the QPR match. Could we finally play as if our team have met longer ago than in the dressing room before the game? Can Ashley Fletcher make us all eat our words? Will the defence learn the basics of resisting crosses? Will one of our goalies look a better bet than Sixer or Monsieur Salut between the sticks?
You tell me. Be first to be right with the scoreline and, even if you support QPR, a prize shall be yours even if it’s only a mug of suitable design.
Here’s a sneak preview of what our QPR Who are You? interviewee has to say. Come back tomorrow for the full interview:
Salut! Sunderland any thoughts on Sunderland – the club, the fans, the city and region, Chris Coleman?
Ian McCullough: I have always had a soft spot for Sunderland as I have known a good few Mackem lads down the years and they’ve all been top boys who know and love their football. They also don’t claim to be the only passionate fans in the country like Newcastle do. Sunderland is a proper football club with great support and deserve a lot better than you are seeing now. This season was my first time at the Stadium of Light, and it really is a fine venue.
Afterwards my mate took me to some smashing pubs around the city and we had a great evening. For that alone I hope you stay up.
Ha’way the Lads.
.
Backs to the wall and out of the trenches fighting start of the great escape 4-0 to the lads
The Lads to win 3-1,still hope.
QPR 1-0 Sunderland
A winner – will be in touch, Steven
Going to the game with my QPR mate, so hoping for an entertaining game and a 3-2 SAFC win.
All these boys have mothers; they need something to cheer them up. 2-0 to Sunderland will put a big smile on Asoro’s mams face.
0-1 to the lads Fletcher gets off the mark.
0-2
Asoro, Jones.
Rodwell to set them up, make 3 goal-line clearances, swear undying loyalty and single handedly rescue our season
No mention of “flying pigs”??
I had it in but the reverse key stuck and deleted most of the post. It was all I could do to repeat the Rodwell bit, which I had to do ‘cos it WILL happen
won’t it?
As we seem to like conceding goals, I’m afraid that I’ll go for another 3-0 drubbing.
The only good thing to come out of this, is that Bain’s surely going to be virtually unemployable. He then won’t be able to inflict this level of pain and incompetence on any other club (unless our friends up the road want him).
Martin Bain is not the problem. Everyone at the club is firefighting in a drought, while the fire blankets are at the laundry, the buckets of sand have been used to top up the bunkers at Houghton Golf Club and all the extinguishers have been set off by drunken members of the Bollinger Club.
Sooo close again! In fact I was 50% correct having got the away score AND even got the SCORER of the first goal spot on. Only a fool would give up on that magic result now – 4-3 to The Lads.
1-1 and hopefully the start of another great escape.
This crest of a trough can’t last forever (can it?). An away win!
Them 1 – 2 Us
2-0 to QPR, reverse curse.
